Day 10!

The tenth day we went in Tartu to meet with a specialist from an organzation of animal rights and to increase the awareness about animal rights and wellfare of the people in the city.

In the morning, after breakfast, the normal life continued for us. We went to the bus and accompanied by our favourite driver, 1 hour later we were arriving in Tartu, at the headquarters of an Animal Rights Organization, where we continued planning the afterlunch activities, while waiting for the abovementioned specialist. We were very informed about the situation in Tartu and we can say that after the speech of the specialist, to whom we are very grateful, we know a lot more about the situation of animals in Tartu and Estonia. Meanwhile, an Italian EVS volunteer joined us to take some pictures and to see our following activities.

Afterwards it was lunchtime at Cafe Noir, a delicious salmon special dish. Then we kept working on preapring the main activity of the day. We wrote the posters, cutting the flyers, putting them on the ’stickermen’ (whom we’ll describe later). The main action started around half past three on the biggest pedestrian crossing in Tartu, near a shopping centre. We were excited because the flash mob was much anticipated. The people were surprised when they saw us acting like wild animals who were hunted and killed by our five hunters on the middle of the zebra. We repeted this six more times and we also got some fans, an American girl who was very interested in our action and even joined our activities. The day continued with a personal street action which were oriented on speaking directly with people, giving them information about animal shelters and animal rights. We are very thankful to Tartu people for their friendly and welcoming attitude and we got a lot of positive feedback. We hope that Tartu shelter will have more volunteers in the near future.

Tired and exhausted we decided to have some free time before dinner. We took a small sightseeing tour and hanged out with locals, it ended with an amazing dinner in an Italian restaurant where we finally ate the pizzas that all participants have been asking since the beginning of the project.

Happy, full and sleepy we returned to the Marja Guesthouse.
